October 8, 2022 Open Forum Featured Sheriff Mike Chitwood

The Open Forum featured special guest speaker, Sheriff Mike Chitwood.
Sheriff Chitwood spoke about some of the current scams going around the community and how to avoid becoming involved. He also mentioned possible scams in our area from unlicensed contractors wanting to provide services following Hurricane Ian. Should someone approach us we should first check to see their license. If they cannot provide it we should immediately call 911 to report them.
The Sheriff also brought us up-to-date on some of the programs he has initiated in the county, like direct hire and training of new recruits for our county and a new program for assessing juvenile offenders to assure they get the proper services and placement.
Several residents asked questions or made comments.
Marcel did speak about the situation here in SummerTrees III and what is being accomplished.
About 50 residents were in attendance
The meeting was adjourned at 11:00. Refreshments were provided by the Social Club.

Volunteers Plant 40 Pine Tree Seedlings

We have lost many trees throughout the years due to hurricanes and age. In an effort to replace some of those losses, the Board approved the purchase of 40 pine tree seedlings from the Florida Forest Service. The cost was low (less than $50) and the benefits will be great.
On Saturday, December 19, volunteers Becky Savoie, Robert Erwin and Sue Toftegaard (pictured left) planted these seedlings throughout SummerTrees III. The seedlings are marked with a pink flag.
We encourage anyone who may be out for a walk to go ahead and give them a drink of water from your water bottle to help the along!

Pond Committee Has First Work Day
Five volunteers gathered together Monday morning, June 1st for their first work day on cleaning up our lakes.
The group included Pat Vukelich, Elizabeth Kempton, Carol "Cookie" Delaney, Mathew Swedlow, Dick Lindeke and Robert and Gale Erwin.
They brought their own tools and worked for one hour, pulling debris out of the lake. Some of it was carted down to the street for the city to pick up and some of it was just pulled out into the sun to dry out so the ground maintenance crew can mulch it.
Come join in!
The group encourages residents to come out any Monday and help out. Meet at the clubhouse at 7:30 am. You don't have to commit to every Monday -- Just show up when you can. They only work for one hour and it is early in the day, to avoid the heat. Some even brought their swimming suits and jumped in the pool afterward!
If you want more information, click here to contact Robert Erwin.

Here is a website that has up to date information on how the COVID-19 virus is affecting our state. floridahealthcovid19.gov
Click here to see what some of our neighbors are doing during this time. Let us know what you are doing!
And finally, lets be alert to neighbors that may need our help during this time. You can call the clubhouse to let us know if something needs to be addressed.
